Background

In Durham Police Force area alone, out of 38
road traffic fatalities in 2002, ten of these had
drugs detected in their blood stream.

These drugs were:

• Ecstasy
• Cocaine
• Cannabis
• Diazepam etc.

In Northumbria Police area there were five fatalities found with drugs in their system.

In Cleveland Police Force area, there has been at least two.

So, across the North East, a staggering seventeen fatalities with drugs found in their bloodstream in just one year.
